Narrow Gauge
Trail
The Land Trust is working on a long-term project to develop
a trail along the historic Narrow Gauge railroad route, linking
Nevada City, Grass Valley, Peardale, Chicago Park, and Colfax.
Wherever practical, the trail will follow the railroad grade,
and where not practical, it will parallel existing roadways,
often within the public road right-of-way.
Currently, the Nevada County Land Trust holds permits and
easements for about one half of a mile of trail in Chicago
Park. The trail in this location is generally on the old railroad
grade paralleling Highway 174. We hope to extend the trail
to the north and south, after acquiring trail easements from
property owners, and encroachment permits from the California
Department of Transportation and the County of Nevada.
A second segment, generally following the old railroad route,
is being built on county right-of-way, along Brunswick Road
at Loma Rica Ranch. This 8/10 mile- long trail segment will
link the Glenbrook Shopping Center with Idaho-Maryland Road. |
